BookKeeper
Posted on November 21st, 2009 | by Simie |I’ve been working on this application I’ve called BookKeeper which is to help those who use their mac to listen to audiobooks while going to sleep.
What it does
What this does is let you set the minutes for a countdown, which when finished will pause what iTunes is playing. There are already apps for this, but the main difference is what happens after the countdown ends.
When the countdown is finished, a five minute countdown is begun at the end of which the mac will sleep. However, if you press play on the apple remote during this time it will restart the initial countdown.
Why is useful? Well, if you’re trying to get to sleep, the last thing you want to do is have to wake up your mac and restart whatever program was counting down to sleep mode.
How to use it
Simply set the number of minutes you want it to run in the main window.
The apple remote can do the following things…
- Press Menu at any time to get a status update
- Press Play while the sleep countdown is running to restart the main countdown
- Hold Play at any time to close the application
Unfortunately right now you can’t skip tracks or increase/decrease volume using the remote when using this app. Sorry

I’ll maybe make it more user friendly sometime in the future. I mostly made it just for myself.
